Employee Spotlight Q&A:
1. What is your role at CQ Partners?
I’m an SEO Strategist. I focus on organic search, Google Business profile optimization, and website user experience.
2. Tell us a little about your background!
I have a bit of a non-traditional path to how I ended up in marketing. I have a bachelor’s degree in history and originally thought I wanted to be a teacher… plot twist: I didn’t. After college, I worked in banking for eight years, but I realized I wanted something more creative. I taught myself website design and started freelancing. My clients began asking about SEO, so I dove into learning that too—and quickly realized it was the perfect mix of creativity and data, which totally fits how my brain works. Eventually, I started my own business helping local business owners with SEO and user experience. I loved it, every part of it—marketing, sales, client work, admin—but it was a lot, which I am sure our practice owners feel. I really admire any business owner who can juggle all of that. When I started exploring new opportunities, I applied to CQ and the rest is history.
3. What is your favorite part of your job?
It’s hard to pick just one thing. I really love the collaborative nature of the work. Not just within the digital team, but across the whole company. Everyone is willing to share ideas and jump in to help, and that teamwork makes what we create stronger for our practices.
4. What are some of the values that drive your work?
Teamwork is a big one for me, and CQ is the most collaborative place I have worked. It’s the most collaborative place I’ve worked. We share knowledge, brainstorm together, and make decisions as a team, which leads to better solutions for our practices. Innovation is also important to me. I’m big on continuous learning. SEO and digital marketing are always evolving, especially now with the popularity of AI so staying curious is important, whether that’s testing new strategies, learning new tools, or attending conferences to stay ahead of the industry.
5. Tell us about a memorable experience or opportunity you’ve had while working for CQ Partners.
A few of us from the digital team got to visit the Google offices in New York, which was such a cool experience. We work closely with Google reps on our paid media, so meeting them in person and learning directly from them was really valuable. I also love attending Reconnect and meeting our practices face-to-face. I talk with many of them over Teams regularly, but being able to connect in person, answer questions on the fly, and really understand their day-to-day challenges makes everything more meaningful.
6. How do you stay motivated in and out of work?
During the workday… coffee and snacks definitely help. When is my next snack break and what am I having? Outside of work, my husband and I love planning trips and traveling. We’re on a mission to visit all the states and U.S. territories, so having our next adventure planned always gives me something fun to look forward to.
7. What’s something you love to do outside of work?
I’m from Pittsburgh, so I grew up watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. I love watching sports and going to games. My husband and I are also big into hiking with my dogs. One is a little older now, so long hikes can be tough for him, but we recently adopted a three-year-old Chihuahua mix who has endless energy, so she loves hikes the longer the better. I’m currently on the hunt for a good carrier so my older dog can still join us, so if any one has any suggestions that would be great.
